Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula?

A doula is a person trained to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to mothers and their families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

What is the difference between a midwife/doctor and a doula?

A midwife/doctor provides medical care throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, ensuring a safe and healthy delivery. A birth doula provides support in the non-medical aspects of pregnancy and birth.

What areas do you serve?

I currently serve clients in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the surrounding areas within 60 miles.

What if I don’t want to have a natural birth?

No matter what kind of birth you desire, I am here to support you. Whether it's a medicated birth, a natural birth, or any other approach, my role remains the same: to provide you with the emotional, physical, and informational support you need to have a positive birthing experience.

I know I want an epidural. Is a doula right for me?

Even if you’re planning to have an epidural, a doula can still provide valuable support. While an epidural can provide pain relief, a birth doula can complement this by providing comfort measures, helping you navigate through the various stages of labor, assisting with communication between you and medical staff, and ensuring your birth preferences are respected.

Does a doula take the place of my partner?

No, a doula does not replace your partner. My desire is to come alongside your partner and empower them to comfort and encourage you through labor by offering additional expertise and guidance. Together, we can be a supportive team focused on ensuring your comfort and well-being through your birth experience.
